Making the average person think is not an easy task.
A person can read, but not everyone can understand what they read.
A separate milestone of art is the ability to elevate a serious problem to the level of absurdity. Thus, a complex, difficult topic becomes simple, and sometimes even funny.
So the creators of the graphic novel Blacksad, having introduced the reader to the main character and his habitat, are in a hurry to raise serious topics.
In the second volume of Blacksad, a whole layer of questions comes to light:
hypocrisy, racism, family values.
Racism in this universe is so ridiculous that it’s hard to take it seriously anymore.
And it is expressed by the color of animal fur.
I, as an ordinary person, have never thought about the color differentiation of animals and
how they (if they were reasonable enough) could react to this.
As one classic writer wrote in his book: “All animals are equal,
but some are more equal than others"
The question of “suit” is famously woven into the plot.
The theme of racism in the southern states and obvious references to the symbols of Nazi Germany
looks very harmonious in the world of anthropomorphic animals.
White and black animals naturally oppose rhino-bet.co.uk each other.
A touch of grotesqueness is added by the main character, whose entire body is black except for his muzzle.
This fact will be repeatedly discussed in the comic and will even become a reason for conflicts.
As in the USA, in the world of Blacksad there are establishments that only serve animals with white fur. And lynching someone for the color of their veil by hanging them on a pole is a widespread practice.
In this chaos, the hero’s non-participation in the confrontation between black and white animals stands out, and this makes it look more vivid. With all this, the genre of the work remains detective and this time the life of a missing girl is at stake. The matter is murky and the powers that be are associated with it, those who consider themselves above the law. The path ahead is not easy and the price is high.
In this incredible waltz of ideology and personal motives, the entire absurdity of what is happening in the comic is revealed, and what seems to be the main problem turns out to be just a screen hiding a more complex plot.
